Interested in starting a new business in Murphy?
Registration is not required by the City of Murphy to start a new business; however, a permit or Certificate of Occupancy may be required if you plan to occupy an existing building. Home-based businesses are subject to the regulations outlined in Chapter 30 (Zoning), Article 30.07, Section 30.07.142 in the Home Occupation Regulations. Certificate of Occupancy applications are available in our Customer Service Office. If you plan on constructing a new building, you will need to contact the Community Development Department for information on the requirements.

- Collin Small Business Development Center is a grant-funded program that provides free consulting and training to small business owners and entrepreneurs in Collin County.
- SCORE is a national organization sponsored by the U.S. Small Business Administration that offers free, confidential advice and mentoring expertise. They help thousands of entrepreneurs start and grow their small businesses every year.
- Texas Small Business Programs is a resource portal from the Texas Governor’s Office of Small Business Assistance. The team serves as a focal point in the state for start-ups and small businesses.
